IGEL UD3 now with fast dual core processor

Alexander Ervik Johnsen IGEL, Thin Client, Windows 2013-05-29

The IGEL dual core offensive enters the second round. From the 27.05.2013, Germany’s bestselling thin client will be available in a new version with a dual core processor. In terms of performance, the fourth generation of the IGEL UD3 surpasses even the top-of-the-range UD5 single core models, which are currently being phased out. Free evaluation units are now available for trial purposes.

Thanks to a powerful hardware update, IGEL Technology is once again boosting the performance of the IGEL UD3, Germany’s bestselling thin client.  The VIA Eden X2 dual core processor with the VIA VX900 chip set speeds up the compact all-round thin client by over 20%. It also makes it quicker than even the single core version of its “big brother”, the IGEL UD5, which is currently being phased out. The new CPU is backed up by up to 2 GB of DDR3 RAM and up to 4 GB of flash storage in the form of an SATA SSD. Further highlights include Dualview with two digital monitors (max. resolution: 1,920 x 1,200 pixels) as well as USB 3.0 at two of the four USB ports. With the new UD3 dual core, IGEL is making the transition to the world of cloud hosted applications and virtual desktops more attractive and future-proof than ever before. After all, the updated version of its top-seller combines improved multimedia capabilities and greater energy efficiency at a low price.

More performance, more multimedia, more investment security

In particular, the IGEL UD3 dual core model meets the more demanding protocol-related requirements imposed on thin clients nowadays. At the same time, dual core processors and fast storage allow targeted or needs-based multimedia redirection. Decoding and rendering media files locally conserves bandwidth and server capacity while optimizing playback quality. With this in mind, the new UD3 with Dualview support provides the option of using two digital monitors at the same time. Alternatively, the supplied DVI-VGA adapter even allows analog monitors to be used without problems. And, of course, the new model offers the same familiar benefits of the UD3 range such as Gigabit LAN support and the optionally available Connectivity Base which provides the UD3 with either a serial interface and WLAN or a theft-proof USB port.

As usual with IGEL devices, the new model comes with the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS), the leading remote management software system within the sector. The UMS allows standardized and secure remote management as well as fast rollouts of IGEL Universal Desktops, converted PCs and selected thin clients from other manufacturers.

Prices and availability

The IGEL UD3-740 LX with IGEL Linux is available for €449, while the IGEL UD3-740 W7 with Windows Embedded 7 costs €574 in the Advanced version. Both devices will be available everywhere from May 27. Evaluation units for free advance testing can now be ordered online. All prices are net end-customer retail prices. IGEL offers a five-year bring-in warranty. The IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) remote management software comes supplied.
