IGEL Technology Extends Unified Workspace Management Capabilities with Support for Dell Wyse 5000 and 7000 Series Thin Clients

IGEL Technology Sales Corp. has announced that it has expanded its portfolio of unified workspace management solutions to include the IGEL Universal Desktop Converter 2 (UDC2). An updated version of the IGEL UDC, the UDC2 adds Dell Wyse 5000 and 7000 series thin clients to the growing list of endpoint devices supported by the software.

“The IGEL UDC2 is ideal for businesses that are looking simplify the remote management of their desktops, or transition more smoothly to a VDI environment,” said Simon Richards, Managing Director, IGEL North America. “By adding support for Dell Wyse 5000 and 7000 series thin clients, we are making it even easier for IT organizations to convert their existing desktops from leading suppliers that are used in cloud and virtual environments into IGEL thin and zero clients, while gaining all the benefits of simplified, central remote management.”

Matthias Haas, Director Product Management for IGEL Technology adds, “This approach means that IT organizations do not have to make immediate capital expenditures to purchase new desktops when they migrate to a VDI environment.”

Thin Client Conversion with UDC2

With IGEL UDC2 software, IT organizations can convert existing Dell Wyse 5000 and 7000 series thin clients; previous generation D and Z class thin clients; thin clients from other leading manufacturers; and, x86-based desktop computers and notebooks running any Linux, ThinOS or Windows Embedded operating system, into an IGEL thin or zero client running the Microsoft Windows® Embedded Standard 7 or IGEL Linux operating system.

Local conversion of endpoint devices into IGEL thin and zero clients leveraging the UDC2 software can be achieved through either a UDC token or USB device. Network conversion requires an IGEL UDC Deployment Appliance Server combined with a PXE server and web GUI.

Simple and Secure Remote Management

The IGEL Universal Management Suite 5 (UMS 5) software, which comes standard with IGEL UDC2 software, makes it possible to remotely manage any endpoint device running the Microsoft Windows 7 or IGEL Linux operating system. With UMS 5, IT organizations can more efficiently manage their workspace environments, while reducing the cost, time and effort associated with remote endpoint management.

Pricing and Availability

An unlicensed evaluation version of the IGEL UDC2 is available for download free of charge at www.myigel.biz. The full version of IGEL UDC2 software supporting Dell Wyse 5000 and 7000 series thin clients will be available in mid-December with the release of IGEL Linux firmware 5.08.100. An annual UDC license is required for hardware conversion and can be purchased through authorized IGEL partners for $99, and includes the Multimedia Codec Pack (MMCP) that supports H.264 Deep Compression Super Codec for high-end screen resolution. The IGEL UMS 5 can be downloaded free of charge at www.myigel.com.
