A look at the Goliath Application Availability Monitor

Alexander Ervik Johnsen Application Availability Monitor, Citrix, DaaS, Goliath Technologies, IaaS, Microsoft, RDS, SaaS, VDI, VMware, XenApp, XenDesktop 2017-10-11

Goliath Application Availability Monitor

The Goliath Application Availability Monitor is an application monitoring tool that monitors the availability and performance of Citrix, VMware, Microsoft RDS, and more, as well as any/all of its hosted applications or desktops.

This tool is meant to help IT departments from all industries — including healthcare, where we have built-in integration into Cerner Millennium, Epic, MEDITECH, and All scripts applications. Our application performance monitoring tool acts as an early warning system for your IT department. Our Goliath system user actively exercises, based on an easily-defined schedule, the same application or desktop delivery infrastructure that your real end users do when launching these VDI applications or desktops. As a result, we provide the only authentically verifiable account of login success or failure, along with screenshots for correlated evidence. This is great for making reports, and it’s especially useful (for example) in helping service providers (DaaS, IaaS, SaaS, and more) provably meet their SLAs. It can also help you to catch items that logs wouldn’t necessarily record, such as client-side errors or issues with second stage authentication.

How the Goliath Application Availability Monitor Works

The Application Availability Monitor enables you to confirm the availability of any application that is accessed using desktop virtualization, regardless of the location of the applications themselves or the users (as explained in our functionality walkthrough). We have built-in integration to proactively monitor the availability of Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, VMware Horizon View, Microsoft RDS, and more.

Goliath Application Availability Monitor  provide visibility into all applications and desktops being launched, with reports and drilldown analytics detailing whether logons succeeded, failed, or were slow. In each case, we provide visual proof of the success failure of each stage of the logon process. With our built-in alerting, IT administrators get real-time alerts the moment a problem occurs, triggered by the Goliath system user’s scheduled attempt, before the end user knows a thing.

If a failure does occur with application or desktop delivery, our ability to monitor, report, and alert in detail on the following common issue root cause areas provides a complete look at your virtual infrastructure:

    • Connectivity (i.e. network speeds, latency)
    • Application/desktop availability
    • Configuration or availability problems with the delivery infrastructure, including: Citrix NetScaler, web interface/storefront, delivery controllers, active directory, licensing servers, SQL databases, and much more
    • Licensing issues
    • Client-side errors (i.e. a message box error presented at the endpoint level, captured by our screenshot technology)
