Nutanix Enables Taiwan’s Chun Yuan Steel Group to Accelerate and Revolutionize its Virtual Desktop Environment

Nutanix, the web-scale converged infrastructure company, has announced its Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform has been adopted by Chun Yuan Steel Group of Taiwan, vastly improving its VMware desktop virtualization performance, enhancing employee work efficiency, simplifying its IT burden and significantly reducing its procurement and operational costs.

Faced with rapid business growth and complicated IT systems, Chun Yuan’s IT department sought a new solution to help streamline costs and simplify IT. After evaluating many solutions, the IT department selected Nutanix’s Virtual Computing Platform to improve virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) access speeds.

In addition to opening the door for a number of other important benefits including disaster recovery and web-scalability, implementing Nutanix has improved overall performance by 4-5 times faster, and it has allowed the company to shorten the time it takes end-users to access their desktops. Using Nutanix, IT administration is also able to track host metrics in real time, including CPU usage, storage performance and disk capacity through the Prism framework.  “This simplification results in a ten-fold savings in time in both administering, monitoring and troubleshooting our production applications”.

“Field performance testing clearly highlights the benefits of the Nutanix converged platform. For example we found that during a VDI boot storm and login storm, it takes just 40 seconds, compared to over 3 minutes with a SAN architecture,” said Li Daiting, Head, Information Management Department, Chun Yuan. “Nutanix shortens waiting time and avoids boot storm, resulting in widespread support from the organization overall.”

For Chun Yuan, the benefits in introducing Nutanix go beyond performance. With the machine room for the company’s data center located in the downtown area, high rental costs lead to limited space that make capacity additions difficult to achieve. Because the 2U Nutanix device provides modular scalability, the company no longer has to battle space requirements and growing electrical bills. The company expects to save around 300,000 NT dollars (US $10,000) annually, and computing efficiency and storage can be scaled out by purchasing new nodes gradually when the desktop virtualization architecture expands.

“Chun Yuan production results validate that Nutanix provides an excellent end-user experience for desktop virtualization by combining the advantages of hyper-converged infrastructure, a web-scale architecture in a cost effective, 100% software-defined approach.” said Ahim Kho, Managing Director for Nutanix in Greater China. “All organizations can achieve desktop virtualization without network storage (SAN or NAS). Nutanix is specially designed for virtualization, providing a complete computing and storage environment, enterprise-grade efficiency, scalability, availability and data management. With an out-of-the-box solution and our user-centric approach, Nutanix makes desktop virtualization extremely easy and risk free.”
