HP releases reference whitepaper for Citrix XenDesktop on XenServer

HP and Citrix collaborate at an engineering level to ensure that our customers benefit from software, hardware and service solutions that are jointly tested, certified, and tuned to deliver optimal server performance. HP and Citrix have developed a range of recommended configurations and services for Citrix applications, focusing on particular business needs and technical scenarios.
Based on HP ProLiant BL460c G6 server blades and HP StorageWorks P4500 G2 iSCSI SAN storage, the reference configuration outlined in this guide is intended to help you build a virtual desktop solution capable of supporting approximately 1,000 Microsoft Office 2007 users on Microsoft Windows XP. This configuration is only provided for reference purposes; specific configurations will vary based on your particular needs. Processor, memory, storage, I/O, and service recommendations should be regarded as minimum levels. HP suggests working with your local HP Reseller or HP Sales Representative to help determine the best solution for your environment and strongly recommends performing a proof-of-concept. Also, this testing focused solely on the virtual desktop (sometimes referred to as VDI) capability within XenDesktop; the hosted, shared desktop model of desktop virtualization enabled by the XenApp capability within XenDesktop has been modeled separately yielding reference configuration(s) for that operating mode.

The reference configuration was validated using tools such as Login Virtual Session Indexer (VSI) Pro 2.1 from Login Consultants. Testing was performed in the Citrix labs, deploying Citrix XenDesktop 4.0 on Citrix XenServer 5.5 on a two-socket, quad-core HP ProLiant BL460c G6 server blade featuring 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon processors1 with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology enabled and an HP StorageWorks P4500 G2 SAN.
