CloudVolumes 2.0 to enhance the deployment and management of workloads and applications

Alexander Ervik Johnsen AppCloaking, Citrix, Cloud, CloudVolumes, Multi-Cloud, XenApp 2014-04-29

CloudVolumes, the company that virtualizes everything above the OS, has announced CloudVolumes 2.0 to enhance the deployment and management of workloads and applications. Users will now be able to instantly provision workloads to cloud providers, while developers can easily test and deploy their application stacks. CloudVolumes 2.0 also adds enhanced support for Citrix XenApp. CloudVolumes is also announcing an upcoming capability called AppCloaking, which will give customers additional flexibility to deploy multiple applications inside a single stack and expose applications per user based on policy. Be sure to check out @CitrixSynergy next week where CloudVolumes will be demonstrating the new release at the Anaheim Convention Center, May 6-8, 2014, in booth #517.

“Organizations are realizing the benefits of the cloud and making the transition quickly; however, this introduces complexity into the management of applications, as the processes are likely to change in a new environment,” said Paul Burns, president, Neovise. “Enterprises need a product that can help them deploy their applications in the cloud without a major infrastructure overhaul, and developers need help testing and rapidly deploying application stacks. CloudVolumes provides the advanced management required for these environments, while minimizing the resources required to make the transition.”

“Our push button data center and cloud vision will continue to drive game changing innovation that reshapes how IT operates through simplification, with increased virtualization,” said Raj Parekh, CEO, CloudVolumes.

Simplifying the Application Management and Deployment Lifecycle

CloudVolumes 2.0 offers:

  • Hybrid Multi-Cloud Enablement: CloudVolumes will now cloud-enable customers by allowing them to instantly provision workloads to cloud providers, such as AWS and Azure, enabling hybrid cloud use cases. Users will be able to seamlessly move from their data center to the cloud.
  • Developer Cloud Enablement: CloudVolumes will enable developers to instantly test and deploy application stacks, driving more efficient resource utilization through increased virtualization. Labor spent building and supporting development and test environments will be reduced, as well as defects and the costs of custom configurations.
  • Citrix XenApp support: CloudVolumes’ simplified virtual appliance now works with XenApp to enable support for both Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp and VMware Horizon deployments. IT and service providers will now be able to offer users a rich choice of applications, cost effectively, differentiating their service offering with instant delivery.

“With over 15,000 students, managing applications and their deployment can be a very daunting task, especially without a major infrastructure overhaul,” said Lucien Haak, team leader workplaces, Maastricht University. “CloudVolumes enables us to easily manage our complex desktop applications, so that we can rapidly deploy them to our students and faculty. Since it requires no modifications to existing applications, it is easy to implement and also reduces our software and hardware requirements, which helps us save on costs.”

Easily Deploy Multiple Applications Inside a Single Application Stack

AppCloaking, a soon to be released capability, will be introduced across the CloudVolumes family of products and will provide users with the flexibility to deploy multiple applications inside a single volume, instantly delivering applications only to entitled users. This unique approach will simplify deployment for users who want a golden image and single volume containing many applications, while avoiding the cost of delivering and managing large base images and simply hiding applications within them, which significantly limits agility.

“Our white label desktop-as-a-service platform provides GPU intensive software vendors with an instant cloud offering and more, enabling users to remotely access their desktop from any device and location with a native user experience,” said Benny Willen, CEO, Cloudalize. “With CloudVolumes, we can give our users this native experience, just as they would have on their physical desktop, without needing to change their profile or behavior. With a single point of deployment and control, it’s easy for us to manage applications while optimizing performance for users.”

“As we work with customers, we uncover more use cases that show the need for Software Defined Workload™ management solutions that simplify lifecycle management in a cloud and virtualized world,” said Harry Labana, SVP and chief product officer, CloudVolumes. “Our goal is to enable a push button- everything data center and cloud to provide customers with flexibility when it comes to their diverse workloads, so they are able to easily deliver them across heterogeneous infrastructures, at scale, increasing efficiency and saving on costs.”
