Nutanix Showcases Web-Scale Converged Infrastructure at VMworld 2014

Alexander Ervik Johnsen Cloud, Converged Infrastructure, Hybrid Cloud, Nutanix, VMworld, Web-Scale Converged Infrastructure 2014-08-20

Ahead of VMworld 2014, Nutanix, the web-scale converged infrastructure company, announced that it will be showcasing a new hyper-converged platform, the NX-8150, at the San Francisco, Calif. event. In addition, the Company is launchingCloud Connect, a new software capability enabling hybrid cloud architectures that leverage popular public cloud services. The Nutanix platform now runs any datacenter application, and enables turnkey hybrid cloud computing for any size enterprises.

Web-scale technologies were innovated by the world’s largest cloud and Internet companies to overcome the limitations of legacy datacenter architectures. However, keeping pace with rapidly changing IT demands and bringing web-scale technologies into the enterprise means meeting a diverse set of requirements. Datacenters must run business-critical applications according to their unique capacity and performance demands. In addition, the vast resources of public clouds offer an enormous opportunity to design modern hybrid clouds. With the new NX-8150 Nutanix powers the core enterprise workloads of today, while Cloud Connect supports the hybrid cloud architecture of tomorrow.

The NX-8150 is a powerful hyper-converged appliance engineered specifically for applications that demand high storage capacity, low latency and fast storage performance, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, and Oracle and SAP databases. A single Nutanix NX-8150 supports up to 3500 Exchange mailboxes in just 2U of rack space to reduce datacenter space requirements and minimize IT complexity. The platform’s linear scalability makes it perfect for even the largest deployments. In addition, the NX-8150 offers flexible CPU, flash and networking configurations enabling customers to tailor the hardware for their environment and workloads. By delivering any application at any scale, the new NX-8150 brings Nutanix’s powerful web-scale infrastructure to run even the most demanding enterprise workloads.

Also announced for VMworld 2014 is Cloud Connect, the first product release in the Company’s hybrid cloud roadmap. Cloud Connect seamlessly integrates public cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), with Nutanix-powered private cloud environments. It allows Nutanix customers, for the first time, to combine private and public cloud technology into their long-term infrastructure strategy without requiring third-party software or hard to maintain plug-ins. Cloud Connect provides reliable data protection and recovery that enables datacenter managers to deliver IT services and integrate in an open manner without being constrained by existing datacenter resources.

“Nutanix delivers the power of web-scale technologies in a turnkey enterprise solution,” said Shawn Winters, IT Director, Mimeo. “The new integrated cloud backup capabilities offer simple, intuitive data protection without requiring third-party solutions. With Cloud Connect, Nutanix has extended the already impressive functionality to the public cloud, allowing us to seamlessly integrate private and public cloud infrastructure into a simple-to-manage yet powerful hybrid cloud.”

“We are laser focused on bringing web-scale architecture to everyone in IT, and the introduction of Cloud Connect and the NX-8150 does just that,” said Raja Mukhopadhyay, Senior Director of Product Management, Nutanix. “Nutanix embraces the public cloud, which is requisite for any modern datacenter. Web-scale IT is already powering some of the largest corporations and government agencies in the world – now we are bringing it to the world’s most mission-critical apps.”
