XenApp and TS Tip of the day – How to disable the EU Browser Choice

Alexander Ervik Johnsen ADMX, Group Policy, IE 8, Internet Explorer, Terminal Server, XenApp 2010-03-02

Here is a quick tip on how to disable the EU Browser Choice in Internet Explorer 8.
A Browser Choice update is available for users who are located in member countries of the European Economic Area. Since this would be a big issue in a Citrix XenApp,XenDesktop,Microsoft Remote Desktop Services and VMware View solution, you should fix your servers or base image
accordingly.

The following information is provided to help system administrators manage the display of the Browser Choice update screen in managed personal computing environments that are under a Volume Licensing program.

Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\BrowserChoice
Value name:
Enable

Value type:
DWORD

Possible values:
1 Display the Browser Choice update (default)
0 Do not display the Browser Choice update

Follow these 3 steps to remove the Browser choice screen for user of XenDesktop, XenApp and Terminal Servers. I will also update the ADMX XenApp and Terminal Server Group Policy file with this setting, soon!

Source: Check Microsoft article KB2019411 for more information on how IT administrators can disable a Browser Choice screen for their users using a simple registry key.

Source: Group Policy Center also has a good article on the matter and even a Group Policy Preference XML file up for grabs.
