AppSense and App-DNA Partner to Accelerate Application Migration and User–Centric Desktop Deployments

Alexander Ervik Johnsen App-DNA, Appsense, Microsoft, News, user-centric desktop transformation, VDI, Virtual Desktop, Windows 7 2011-10-18

Partnership speeds migration of Windows-based applications into new platforms including Windows 7, virtual desktop computing and remote desktop services for physical and virtual machines

AppSense, the leading provider of user virtualization technology, and App-DNA, the award-winning global leader in application migrations, today announced a strategic partnership to provide organizations with a comprehensive, user-centric desktop transformation program. The partnership greatly accelerates the migration of Windows-based applications onto new platforms such as Windows 7®, virtual desktop computing and remote desktop services.

Using this approach, AppSense and App-DNA eliminate many user-related and application-related project barriers that burden traditional desktop transformation projects. IT managers can migrate critical applications to new desktops faster, with less risk, while delivering a consistent end-user experience across all platforms.

“The traditional end-user desktop is undergoing a period of significant transformation,” said Chris Wolf, Research VP, Gartner. “Emerging application and data delivery scenarios are often derived from several complementary technologies such as physical endpoints, virtual desktops, published applications, and SaaS services. Organizations cannot wait for tomorrow’s desktop to fully mature and then hit a switch. Instead they must begin the multi-year transformation process today, and leverage proven enterprise-grade tools to take them there.”

Together, AppSense and App-DNA provide organizations with powerful capabilities to:

  • Analyze: App-DNA provides deep application analysis, highlighting migration and performance risks in the earliest stages of migration planning;
  • Plan: By providing detailed application analysis, App-DNA allows organizations to achieve their end user computing strategies by informing them on how to deliver the application to the end user based on the enterprise’s infrastructure and end user experience goals;
  • Manage: AppSense allows IT to manage the user, independent of the environment, across all computing platforms and delivery mechanisms. IT is able to manage productivity and user experience at the device level; and,
  • Deliver: AppSense user virtualization enables IT to deliver the user to any desktop, device or location, allowing for flexibility, freedom of choice and the reduction of IT barriers.

“Virtually every corporate and enterprise organization is in some phase of planning or deploying new desktop infrastructure,” said David Roussain, VP, strategic alliances, AppSense. “In every case, this includes various combinations of Windows 7, virtual desktops and remote desktop services.   In addition, we believe every organization is undergoing the additional pain of application migration, that’s where our partnership with App-DNA steps in to accelerate the desktop transformation lifecycle.”

App-DNA combines insight about applications with highly accurate application testing, remediation and compatibility to guide business decisions about application migration, application management and long-term application portfolio evolution. The App-DNA AppTitude™ software platform helps enterprises worldwide save time, cost and risk in managing applications for Windows 7, Internet Explorer®, Microsoft® App-V™, Citrix® XenDesktop® XenApp™, VDI and Windows Server 2008® initiatives.

“By leveraging App-DNA, customers accelerate desktop migrations which saves time, lowers cost and dramatically reduces application migration risks,” says Kurt Heusner, chief customer officer, App-DNA. “Providing customers with a proven method to analyze and understand their application inventory, performance and transition risks before deployment, allows them to plan ahead and manage migrations far more effectively. Saving time, money and potential downtime allows them to work within the constraints of their IT budgets.”
