AppSense Appoints Darron Antill as CEO

Alexander Ervik Johnsen Appsense, Cloud Computing, Desktop Virtualization, User Virtualization Technology, VDI, Virtualization 2011-01-11

Experienced executive to accelerate growth and expansion of leading user virtualization company

AppSense, the leading provider of user virtualization solutions for enterprises, is ushering in a new era of growth with the appointment of Darron Antill as chief executive officer. Based in the company’s New York headquarters, Antill most recently served as the company’s chief operating officer, leading the company to record revenue and rapid expansion in 2010. Antill replaces founder Charles Sharland, who will continue as chairman of the board of directors.

Prior to AppSense, Antill was CEO of specialist virtualization integrator Vistorm, where he led the company to record revenues and oversaw the business through its acquisition by EDS and subsequent transition to HP. During his seven years at Vistorm, Antill was responsible for its sales and services business, building strategic vendor relationships and developing strong channel alliances.

“Since Darron joined AppSense as COO, he has been dedicated to the company’s growth and has played a huge role in the outstanding market position we are in today,” said Sharland. “The user virtualization market has gone from education to widespread acceptance and understanding fairly quickly. User virtualization is now accepted as a crucial layer of the desktop, and the only way to ensure user adoption in a desktop estate that is rapidly becoming a combination of physical and virtual technologies. With more than 20 years of strategic experience, Darron is adept at taking advantage of market conditions, and his strong management philosophy and aggressive strategy will allow AppSense to continue its market leadership and rapid expansion and validation of the user virtualization category.”

AppSense built significant momentum in 2010, achieving 60 percent global revenue growth; increasing its workforce by 43 percent; and announcing partnerships with a number of major vendors including Microsoft and McAfee. Additionally, AppSense experienced record growth with its channel partners. The company signed its first two-tier distribution agreement in North America with distributor Ingram Micro, and announced its partnership with M7 Global Partners, allowing AppSense user virtualization solutions to be easily delivered to enterprises throughout North America.

“The user virtualization space is at a tipping point, with major technology companies and analysts now validating the category. I am excited by the market opportunity ahead of AppSense and am dedicated to continuing the company’s growth as I take on my new role,” said Antill. “We have successfully expanded into new global territories, and we have grown orders by 80 percent during the past quarter. This is an incredibly exciting time for AppSense, and we expect this rapid expansion to continue as we research and move into new and emerging markets including the increasing importance of user virtualization on cloud and mobile device platforms.”
