DataCore Software Adds Advanced Site Recovery (ASR) Option for SANmelody

DataCore ASR for SANmelody Targets Virtualization Customers Who Can’t Afford Dedicated Disaster Recovery (DR) Sites; ASR Enables DR for both Physical and Virtual Infrastructures

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – January 5, 2010 – DataCore Software, a leading provider of storage virtualization, business continuity and disaster recovery software solutions, is kicking off the new year by launching an Advanced Site Recovery (ASR) solution for SANmelody(tm). The software is designed to work across both virtual and physical storage infrastructures to eliminate or minimize business disruptions and data loss attributed to planned and unforeseen site outages and disasters. ASR was first developed around SANsymphony(tm) to enable larger data centers and organizations to simplify remote site recovery by harnessing readily available IT assets across different sites. In releasing ASR for SANmelody, DataCore is providing an even more cost-effective solution for smaller businesses and remote site deployments. ASR makes distributed disaster recovery (D-DR) flexibility now practical for all organizations – thereby enabling any company, regardless of size, to embrace this technology by tailoring it to whatever their cost structures allow.

“With ASR, DataCore has developed a distributed and cost-effective way to have IT assets at remote offices and branch offices (ROBOs) take over for the main datacenter when the central machines are unable to meet processing obligations,” explained Augie Gonzalez, director of product marketing, DataCore Software. “Whether that is during planned facility outage or an unexpected disaster makes no difference. There are major cost savings from repurposing ROBO IT assets and personnel for business continuity. DataCore’s innovative approach yields even more benefits. For example, regular disaster recovery tests and refresher training can be performed at the branch location during periods of slow activity while the main datacenter processing continues undisturbed.”

Highlighting the Power Advances Site Recovery (ASR)

ASR for SANmelody builds on DataCore’s universal storage virtualization software to move IT operations from a central site to one (or more) distributed contingency locations – and back again. While SANmelody ASR can be used between two (2) sites, the far more likely scenario is a “hub and spoke” model where, a SANsymphony ASR license will be used in the central site, with connections to multiple remote offices/branch offices running SANmelody ASR.

This solution allows organizations to cost-effectively spread DR responsibilities across several smaller sites. Additionally, the solution makes no distinction between physical and virtual servers, unifying their DR operations in a common, automated process. In terms of storage flexibility, ASR for SANmelody does not depend on duplicating expensive equipment offsite, such as top-of-the-line disk arrays and specialized networking gear.

“DataCore’s cutting-edge Advanced Site Recovery for SANmelody solution enables users to experience full site level recovery in a way that is more flexible and powerful than anything else in the marketplace,” commented George Teixeira, president and CEO, DataCore Software. “DataCore ASR enables users to execute site recovery operations in a way that is fundamentally different from existing solutions in the marketplace today by bringing together the elements of a scattered data center into a single restoration solution.”

DataCore ASR for SANmelody Solution Highlights

  • Supports physical and virtual servers.
  • Enables Distributed Disaster Recovery (D-DR) encompassing multiple sites in a one-to-many or many-to-many relationship.
  • Delivers storage flexibility – thereby not depending on duplicating expensive equipment offsite.
  • Embraces a bi-directional approach. ASR has the ability to send the virtual machines (VMs) and the storage to a remote site as well as to recover it from the remote site and bring it all back to the primary site. Having central site restoration built-in ensures rapid restoration of the central IT site from the widely dispersed branches through ongoing bi-directional replication.
