New CA ARCserve Releases Deliver Faster, Simpler Data Protection for Physical and Virtual Server Environments

Alexander Ervik Johnsen CA, CA ARCserve, Citrix, Hyper-V, Microsoft, Virtualization, VMware, vSphere, XenServer 2010-11-10

CA Technologies, today announced new CA ARCserve® product releases that provide continuous data protection (CDP) and high availability for Microsoft® Windows®, Linux® and UNIX® systems, applications and data, and help maintain uptime for both physical and virtual server environments—including VMware® vSphere™, Microsoft Hyper-V™ and Citrix® XenServer™.

Managed through a unified web-based console, the new releases of CA ARCserve Replication and CA ARCserve High Availability are designed to help customers more effectively protect business systems and data—while helping to improve IT staff productivity and data integrity.

Key features and enhancements to the CA ARCserve new releases include:

  • Multi-Stream Replication – boosts performance on high-latency networks, helping reduce the time required to move business-critical data between production servers and replication/failover servers.
  • Custom Application Protection Wizard – helps reduce complexity and dependence on user-defined scripts, making it easier to protect commercial and custom applications.
  • Customer Conduit – incorporates social networking and other popular Web 2.0 technologies for online technical support, enhancement requests, and discussions with user communities.
  • Popular Application Support – including Microsoft SQL Server® 2008 R2 and Microsoft SharePoint® 2010, Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP1 and Microsoft Internet Explorer® 7 and 8.

Both products help reduce data loss and downtime through continuous data protection that complements any periodic backup solution.  They are also used to copy data offsite for disaster recovery purposes and speed migration from physical to virtual servers.  For mission-critical applications and data, CA ARCserve High Availability adds server and application monitoring with automated and push-button failover for continuous server, application and data availability.

Eby-Brown Co., a leading convenience store supplier and wholesale food distributor of more than 11,000 name-brand products, uses CA ARCserve Replication and High Availability software to help control the cost of mission-critical data management—including storage, growth, accessibility and 24×7 availability—while meeting regulatory requirements.

“Our data protection needs keep evolving and expanding at a rate that far outpaces any growth in our departmental resources,” said Corky Pringle, senior service desk technician, Eby-Brown.  “CA Technologies continued enhancement of its ARCserve product line is therefore critical to our ability to protect our business from data loss and service outages.”

CA ARCserve is being embraced by CA Technologies partners such as Marathon Technologies, which recently introduced everRun MX Extend, a new product that leverages CA ARCserve Replication technology to deliver superior application availability.

“As customers implement new applications and virtualization platforms—and as they continue to experience relentless growth in critical data—CA Technologies is responding with the features, functionality and performance improvements they need,” said Mike Crest, general manager, Recovery Management and Data Modeling, CA Technologies.  “The latest versions of CA ARCserve High Availability and CA ARCserve Replication are specifically designed to help customers streamline their data protection operations so they can reduce costs and allocate their IT resources to more strategic tasks.”

Customers with active maintenance agreements may download the new releases at no additional cost.

These solutions are part of the CA ARCserve Family of Products, which offers a full range of products from bare metal restore to fully automated failover for high availability.
