Technical collaboration ensures unparalleled NxTop® experience on Lenovo business PCs
Westford, Mass .– March 9, 2011 — Virtual Computer, the leader in client virtualization, is collaborating with Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) to optimize Virtual Computer’s NxTop® client virtualization and management solution on select models of Lenovo ThinkPad T and X Series laptops as well as select models of ThinkCentre A and M Series desktop PC platforms. Additionally, Lenovo customers will be able to have Virtual Computer’s NxTop client loaded onto their custom images, direct from the factory, through Lenovo’s Imaging and Technology Center.
The collaboration enables small-to-midsized businesses (SMBs) and large businesses to improve their PC management while reducing the costs of supporting and maintaining a distributed desktop environment. End users also benefit since they have the flexibility to run multiple NxTop virtual machines (VMs)—for instance, corporate and personal VM’s—on their Lenovo machines and access VMs while they are mobile and disconnected from the network.
“NxTop offers business customers a robust client virtualization solution that provides a market-leading desktop management console, while simultaneously maintaining the high performance standards that customers expect from their Lenovo ThinkCentre desktops and ThinkPad laptops,” said Tom Tobul, vice president, Software and Peripherals Marketing, Lenovo.
Both SMB’s and large enterprises recognize the benefits of client virtualization and management but have been reluctant to deploy Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) due to the substantial investment in servers, storage and networking required. However, the collaboration between Lenovo and Virtual Computer helps eliminate that expense. Not only does the NxTop/Lenovo combination deliver an unparalleled solution, providing users with improved manageability and increased security of the entire PC environment, but it does so with a significantly lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to VDI.
“We chose Virtual Computer’s NxTop solution to improve the way we deploy and manage our PC’s,” said Nathan McBride, Executive Director of IT at AMAG Pharmaceuticals. “We have been particularly thrilled by the performance of NxTop on the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop platform and feel confident we combined the most innovative client virtualization solution with the best PC technology.”
NxTop combines centralized client management with a bare-metal, Xen-based client hypervisor to create a single, cost-effective platform for any combination of local desktops, remote VDI sessions, and server- and cloud-based applications, significantly reducing desktop operating costs without compromising mobility, user experience, or current PC investments.
“Businesses have discovered traditional Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is not only cost-prohibitive but also adds complexity to IT and degrades the end user experience. Virtual Computer delivers the only client virtualization and management solution, NxTop, that significantly reduces IT costs and improves support and manageability while improving the end user experience,” said Dan McCall, CEO of Virtual Computer “As a company dedicated to performance, we are thrilled to be working with Lenovo. Not only are customers benefiting from running NxTop on Lenovo PC platforms, but Lenovo is the preferred vendor among our engineers.”
