Desktone Chooses Liquidware Labs ProfileUnity to Deliver Persistent User Experience for Cloud-hosted Desktops

Solution to be integrated with Desktone Platform, enabling lower cost, more flexible desktop management
Liquidware Labs, the leader in assessment, migration, and user experience management for next-generation desktops, today announced a new partnership with Desktone, the pioneer of Desktops as a Service. As part of the agreement, Liquidware Labs ProfileUnity™ will be directly available within the Desktone Platform. Together, the solutions will enable non-persistent desktops that have all the benefits of persistent user personalization—allowing organizations to instantly and cost-effectively provision new desktops in the cloud that are populated with the look and feel of each user’s existing desktop.

Delivering a non-persistent desktop in a dynamic virtual environment has many advantages over persistent desktops by offering a pristine and proven operating system environment delivered fresh each time a user logs on. However, organizations often opt for the persistent experience instead because it offers a great degree of user personalization and retains user settings. By offering ProfileUnity to customers, Desktone is delivering the best of both worlds—with a stable persistent desktop personalized for each individual user by ProfileUnity at logon.

“Non-persistency is key to making cloud computing attractive for desktops because it enables the lower cost, anywhere-access flexibility that enterprises require—and profile management is critical to making non-persistency viable,” said Peter McKay, CEO of Desktone. “Liquidware Labs has a strong user profile solution, from effectiveness, simplicity, and cost perspectives. And because it does not require other technologies in order to implement, its low overhead and straight-forward architecture make it easy to integrate with the Desktone Platform.”

“The industry is very intrigued by the idea of moving desktops to the cloud, and Desktone is forging the way with innovative cloud-hosted desktop solutions,” said Tyler Rohrer, Founder of Liquidware Labs. “We’re excited that Desktone saw the unique value that ProfileUnity can bring to its offering by making it even more compelling with the option of non-persistent, personalized desktops.”

ProfileUnity is a comprehensive user environment management solution for any Windows desktop infrastructure, with specific benefits for virtual environments. It separates user profiles, configurations, and data from the Windows OS, enabling organizations to be more flexible than ever before with their desktops. ProfileUnity requires no software to be installed to endpoints and features a database-free architecture. Benefits of use include one unified user profile (for both Windows XP and Win 7), automated migration of user authored data, central management of user settings, and persistency of user persona and settings even in non-persistent VDI environments.

The Desktone Platform is the only-purpose built solution for providing desktops in the cloud. It is designed to deliver the flexibility, savings and scalability that service providers and enterprises require. Its multi-tenancy capabilities make it easy for service providers to scale by creating, managing and monitoring multiple customers on the same shared infrastructure. Multi-data center capabilities allow service providers to use their data center infrastructure to cost-effectively support widely distributed enterprise environments.

By integrating ProfileUnity with the Desktone Platform, Liquidware Labs and Desktone are making cloud computing an even more flexible and affordable option for desktop environments.

About Desktone

Desktone is changing the way people buy and manage desktops. Desktone pioneered the concept of Desktops as a Service (DaaS), the easiest and most affordable way to deploy hosted virtual desktops. The Desktone Cloud, Desktone’s DaaS offering, provides all of the benefits of virtualized desktops without any of the hassles. By delivering virtual desktops in the cloud, Desktone enables enterprises to rapidly provision desktops to users on any device, anywhere, without the upfront costs and complexity of traditional desktop virtualization—transforming desktops from a CAPEX to OPEX item. Founded in 2007, Desktone is funded by Highland Capital and Softbank and is headquartered in Boston, MA. For more information, visit www.desktone.com.
