How to move a VHD file to XenClient

Alexander Ervik Johnsen Citrix, Hypervisor, Type-1 Hypervisor, VHD, Virtual Machine, VM, WinSCP, XenClient, XenConvert, XenServer 2010-11-30

Here is a quick guide on how to move a VHD file from one location to Citrix XenClient

First of all you need Use the XenConvert to convert the image to a XenServer (XenClient) VHD

Step-by-step:

  1. Create an empty VM on the XenClient
  2. Use your favorite SCP client (WinSCP) to browse the Hyper-Visor shell
  3. Navigate to /storage/disks
  4. There will be some GUID based VHD files there, rename the VHD that you exported from the converter
  5. Copy over the file on the XenClient HyperVisor
  6. Turn on VM

Now you should have moved your vhd file to the XenClient!
