Nutanix expands industry’s only hybrid hypervisor-agnostic converged infrastructure platform

Alexander Ervik Johnsen Hyper-V, Hypervisor, KVM, Microsoft, Nutanix, VMware, vSphere 2013-08-22

Nutanix, a provider of hyper-efficient, massively scalable and elegantly simple datacenter infrastructure solutions, has introduced a technology preview of its support for Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 in conjunction with the latest release of Nutanix OS (NOS) 3.5 release. Building on its existing support for VMware vSphere and KVM, Nutanix now supports the broadest range of hypervisor platforms in the converged infrastructure market.

Since inception, Nutanix has taken a hypervisor-agnostic approach to its software architecture strategy with the goal of creating a common data fabric that powers a hybrid enterprise datacenter comprised of different workloads running on multiple hypervisors. Extending the company’s promise to deliver maximum flexibility and choice at the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for its Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform customers, the new release enables the most deployment scenarios to power the largest variety of virtualized private cloud workloads under a single, unified data fabric.

“By delivering our support for Microsoft Hyper-V, we have extended the benefits of our ground-breaking converged compute and storage platform to nearly all corners of the enterprise market,” said Howard Ting, vice president of marketing, Nutanix. “Companies of all sizes, regardless of budgetary constraints, will now benefit from the unprecedented scalability, performance and simplicity of our solution.”

The Nutanix technology preview for Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 includes support for the Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol 3.0 used for providing shared access to files between nodes on a Windows-based network. A Nutanix cluster, regardless of the underlying hypervisor, can be elegantly managed using Nutanix Prism — a newly announced, completely redesigned UI — so there is never a need to learn additional management tools for multi-hypervisor environments.

With a singular focus on customer success, Nutanix also continues to add value and functionality for VMware customers. Already viewed by VMware and its channel partners as one of the best infrastructure platforms for high-performance virtualized applications like demanding end-user computing, server workloads and big data initiatives, the latest NOS 3.5 release introduces a validated SRA for vCenter Site Recovery Manager as well as a certified vSphere VAAI integration.

“Nutanix continues to lead the industry in re-inventing the datacenter,” said Amir Omerbegovic, manager of IT Systems Architecture at O’Melveny and Myers LLP, a law firm based in Los Angeles with 800 lawyers in 16 offices worldwide. “Their support of Microsoft Hyper-V enables users to deploy the same infrastructure for more workloads and scenarios, providing unprecedented flexibility, TCO and management consistency.”
