Sanbolic announced its joining the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network, a move the data management vendor says is in order to offer its recently announced Melio™ AppCluster™ Microsoft SQL Server public cloud platform to the enterprise, government and startup customers of AWS.

The new offering will enable AWS customers to span and/or move business critical applications from their on-premise data centres into the AWS cloud, and in doing so appreciate all of its intended advantages such as pay-as-you-go flexibility, long-term investment/vendor lock-in avoidance, instant elasticity and an open and agile infrastructure – all delivered on a secure technology platform built and managed by AWS.

Microsoft SQL Server has become one of the most widely deployed database server and information platforms in the world. Likewise, SQL Server clustering has become one of the most prevalent solutions for ensuring its high availability.  And, while it is an incredibly popular solution, it is not without its share of challenges – such as SQL Server sprawl, management complexity and out of control costs.

With the recent addition of cloud support for its Melio AppCluster software, customers are now able to extend capabilities previously limited to their on-premise data center into the cloud and consequently, enjoy all of the additional benefits the cloud can provide.

“This is an attractive offering for those IT organisations looking to scale or add high availability to their SQL Server environment,” said Terri McClure, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG).  “The combination of Amazon Web Services’ highly reliable, scalable and low cost infrastructure in the cloud, combined with Sanbolic’s Melio Microsoft SQL Server high availability platform can provide customers with a powerful solution for ensuring better IT responsiveness and higher availability with a compelling ROI for their business critical applications.”

“From a technical standpoint, the new Sanbolic AppCluster SQL Server platform available via Amazon Web Services will provide AWS customers with the ability to simplify management and increase availability, while ensuring lighting fast failover and load balancing across physical and virtual SQL Servers,” said Momchil “Memo” Michailov, CEO and Co-Founder, Sanbolic. “From a business benefits viewpoint, customers can now reallocate their time and expertise to activities that speed time-to-market, increase competitive advantage and directly contribute to the bottom-line.”
