AppSense buys mobile IT company RapSphere
AppSense, the people-centric computing company, today announced the intent to acquire RAPsphere, a mobile IT company developing mobile information management solutions enabling CIOs to contend with BYOD in the enterprise and the critical need to protect corporate applications and data on mobile devices.
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close within the quarter. This will be the first acquisition made by AppSense and will expand the application of user virtualization across the mobile enterprise. The move will advance efforts to further establish greater controls and IT management of enterprise users who, whether enterprise IT consents or is even aware, are choosing how and where they want to work. RAPsphere delivers on the AppSense vision to enable Enterprise Consumerization through people-centric computing.
“Today, CIO’s are seeking a simplified management of corporate data and applications regardless of which mobile end points or desktops users choose,” said Sachin Kundra, CIO of Chevron Federal Credit Union. “We have been independently working with both AppSense and RAPsphere to better understand people-centric computing and accelerate BYOD initiatives. Ultimately, our goal is to empower our employees with the freedom to choose when and where they work, and on their device of choice while always maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance. The integration of these two companies will significantly accelerate and bring us that much closer to achieving that objective.”
“We understand the needs of enterprise organizations dealing with disruptive mobile technologies driving BYOD and the need for greater governance of users,” said Darron Antill, CEO of AppSense. “There is a critical need to protect corporate applications and data on employee-owned devices. Our business is based on helping our customers build productive enterprise environments. RAPsphere will be an important and strategic acquisition that enables us to advance our user virtualization solutions. We are excited to welcome this team of mobile IT experts into the AppSense family.”
RAPsphere, a Redwood City, CA based start-up, was co-founded by Ravi Khatod, Ajay Arora and Prakash Linga. Upon the closing of the transaction, all employees will join the company and continue the development of cutting edge mobile technology that will be part of the AppSense user virtualization portfolio. Mobile IT is an area of development that is inherent to the needs of organizations addressing the impact of enterprise consumerization.
“This is an exciting day for the RAPsphere team, who have worked hard to develop our mobile IT solutions in a fast paced market,” said Ravi CEO of RAPSphere. “Our vision for supporting productive mobile enterprises aligns perfectly with the proven AppSense user virtualization approach. We look forward to evolving the AppSense story and helping IT organizations transition from fearing BYOD to embracing it as a force-multiplier for mobile workforces.”
“Mobile IT is a market shift for enterprise environments trying to manage data and applications,” said Harry Labana, CTO and VP Product Management at AppSense. “AppSense understands that IT managers face greater complexities than ever before while at the same time users have much more freedom to adopt preferred ways of working. We are lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate and build together the next generation of mobile user virtualization solutions with the RAPsphere team.”
